A bit about me / why i have the webpage up.....

I work in the education industry and when im not doing my main job, i am found involved in a variety of other side interests , some which are for me evolving into a new career path over time.

One of these hobbies is  that I am a journalist writing for 2 well known Australian aviation and railway magazines and these roles allow me to travel to historical places, interview many different people and see some very interesting events. I am also a technical/heritage adviser to the film industry and work with film directors and producers who make military/war movies..

My other main interests sees me assisting in running various railway and aviation tourism projects located around NSW in management, general duties and media roles.

My blog is an outlet to share some of my media work and travels over the years / past trips around Australia and overseas, such as visiting intrastate trips, volunteer work i have done or trips to World War 1 battlefields in Turkey, France and Belgium. This webpage will also show some of my photographic skills off at times - i am known for my composition and artistic photo results.

Over the years due to my work and involvement in various community projects, I have built a varied and interesting media profile up. I have appeared in many media forms over the years -
  • i once did modelling work in the mid 1990s with it been published in the Sun Herald newspaper,
  • i have featured in a TV interview with Channel 7 news in Sydney during 2006 regarding railway operations,
  • having done many radio and newspaper interviews since 2009 for railway heritage work across NSW where i help / did help on projects. I have done around 20 radio interviews and 15 newspapers interviews since 2009, so i think i have a good understanding of media operations.
I am the current media officer for the Gundagai Railway Museum using my media skills in a productive manner promoting the museum and gaining new tourism via webpage publication, radio and newspaper interviews. I am currently also help other railway projects in NSW at Canowindra and Oberon when i can, in other ways with support or consultancy work.
Through my efforts various projects have gained sponsors which have come onboard due to my connections and time spent.

Past examples of my volunteer work has seen me hold roles at -

Merriwa Railway Society - President, Co-ordinator and Media officer duties at the operation during 2009-2010. I helped to set up the society and planned many projects.

M.V Baragoola - I did media work helping to promote the saving of the ferry and general volunteer work onboard this historic / Sydney's oldest harbour ferry. I worked  along side others from the preservation association during 2010-2011.

3801 Ltd - I volunteered as a general worker during 2008-2010 where i assisted others in maintaining and  restoring various heritage rollingstock such as carriages, diesels and steam trains.

Gundagai Railway Museum - help with planning for future expansion projects and media work such a webpage, newspaper and TV coverage.

I have been writing since 2008 and gained my media work break into the magazine world from friends in the aviation industry. The last few years has also seen me work in my spare time as a freelance journalist contributing stories to the railway and aviation magazines. My work is published in popular magazines such as Railway Digest / Australian Railway History and Australian Pilot. My writing covers business / military / airshow / heritage features stories or reviews, warbird news and pilot profiles.

This then lead into railway media work during late 2011.

My media work enables me to travel to many places across Australia to record historical events or interview people. Examples of my media work have included me interviewing people such as famous American artist Lou Drendel, Garry Cooper ex RAAF pilot, visiting many RAAF/RAN bases in NSW for squadron reviews and covering airshows such as Temora Warbirds.
